SERIOUS ABOUT
YOUR TECH.
WELCOME TO
OUR PLATFORM

At Moneysupermarket Group our tech and digital teams develop the services and solutions that help households to make the most of their money. Last year we saved UK consumers over £1.8 billion, improving the lives of millions of households. This year our ambition is even greater.

To support the growth of the business we’ve been busy building our highly scalable, cloud-based platform, and now we’re ready to take it to the next level. Based in Manchester, Ewloe and London the tech and digital teams work across our trusted and well-known brands, enhancing and creating market leading new capabilities that can be shared across the group.

The Technology

Our highly scalable, microservices-based platform supports the newest technologies, languages and testing environments – so our teams get to focus on what matters most – building great solutions using cutting edge tools. We encourage everyone to learn new skills, experiment and stretch themselves to achieve things they haven’t done before. It’s a collaborative environment and there is always someone who knows about the latest technology, who is willing to help out. That’s why we say that if you’re serious about your tech, welcome to our platform.

Working in Tech

Moneysupermarket Group is a great place to work – with tech and digital the best of all (although we might be biased!) We’re a FTSE 250 business that in many ways feels more like a startup. We do everything we can to support our employees so that they can be themselves and do their best work. The environment is open plan and collaborative. The dress code is very informal and the vibe is fast, focused, friendly and supportive. And best of all, the work we do makes a real difference – helping your friends, families and neighbours, along with every other household in the UK, to save money.

RELAXED ENVIRONMENT

It’s easy to do your best work when you can be yourself. At Moneysupermarket Group there’s no dress code, just great colleagues who are on your wavelength.

NO TWO DAYS THE SAME

With loads of different initiatives and challenges to get involved with – and new skills to learn as you go, we don’t think you’ll ever get bored.

SERIOUSLY GOOD FUN

What would work be without any fun. From table football and Xbox, to Wellbeing Wednesdays and after work socials – we are a friendly and welcoming bunch, who take our fun very seriously indeed.

Carl

DevOps Engineer

EWLOE

I’ve worked at Moneysupermarket for ten years – and feel like I’ve grown up with the company. As a DevOps Engineer my role is to support the teams around our cloud infrastructure. Usually this means I have continuous improvement work on the go, fixing any problems that arise as quickly as possible and then sorting out the root cause, resolving any process failures and putting in place a better solution for the customer. I’ve always enjoyed fixing problems – and I hate being bored, so this role is brilliant for me. I love the fact that people trust me; we all trust each other, it’s a supportive place to work.

A few years ago, I was given the chance to take part in our Group Employee Forum – there’s about 15 of us who meet up to discuss and resolve issues. One of the ideas we came up with was Wellbeing Wednesdays – we’ve run lots of activities from financial workshops to spinning classes, these are well supported and appreciated by colleagues. I’m proud that an idea that I was involved in has made such a difference to people.

I relocated to the North West from London three years ago and was excited to work for a leading brand on a new and exciting project. The work I do involves migrating from legacy systems to a whole new platform – so I feel a big responsibility for ensuring the quality of the data that we put on the platform. I’ve enjoyed getting familiar with the new technologies and researching new ways of doing things and new tools we can use. And I love working in an Agile environment where you really feel part of a team.

The data I test has a direct impact on the things we do as a business – what new propositions we develop and which channels we invest in, so I feel close to our purpose and our customers.

The best thing about working here is the encouragement you are given to go further – to develop new skills. It’s a supportive and innovative place to have a career.

SULLY

Head Architect

MANCHESTER

The thing that really attracted me to Moneysupermarket was the tech. I loved the fact that we work on an open source tech stack and that we own what we build – it gives me a sense of real pride in what we do. In the 4 years that I’ve been here I have had so many opportunities to develop skills, to progress, to take on new challenges. Being part of the digital hub in Manchester has been one of those opportunities. Because the office is still quite new it feels like you’re in at the start of something fresh, something transformational – and every month there are new people in the desks around you!

The biggest buzz I get is solving hard problems and working with smart people. I strongly believe that if you get good people in, give them the right equipment and empower teams to deliver – then you get great results. I’ve seen that in my own career and now I’m seeing it with my teams.

I joined just over a year ago from a small niche business and knew I wanted to work for a bigger organisation. One thing that attracted me most was working in an Agile environment – which was going to be new to me. I did feel slightly daunted by the prospect but I have loved using Pair Programming – and feel that this way of working has helped me to adapt to Agile really quickly. The great thing about it is the fact that two brains are working on the same problem and you spark off each other – it’s a very creative and social way of working. It also means you learn lots of new things and benefit from other people’s experience – and they learn from you.

I enjoy working for a bigger business, but because you are part of a team it never feels huge – and the people are all friendly and informal – so it’s the best of both worlds. I’m really glad that I made the move and I am proud to work for such an innovative and exciting business.

CERI

Delivery Lead

EWLOE

I came into this job without a tech background – and remember feeling overwhelmed on the first day. But I soon learnt that key skills that I have, in things like communication, are really valuable here, and they actually like you to come in with new ideas and be prepared to challenge the way things are done. The other good thing about Moneysupermarket is that everyone wants you to do well – you can ask anyone anything, and no one will mind, or put you down. It’s a friendly and supportive culture.

Because of the role I now have in delivery I’m very close to the commercial side of the business – and get to see the impact of what we deliver on the customer, which I also find really rewarding. I’m always telling the team how things have worked – and how customers have responded.

From a personal point of view I like the fact that I’m able to manage my own time – I’m not micromanaged and I am trusted to make decisions in regards to delivery and my team.

MANCHESTER

I’ve only been here a few days – so it’s all very new to me, but the facilities are amazing; the location is great and the coffee is high quality, and free!

I’ve had two other roles since leaving university with a degree in computer science and maths. I’ve also relocated from London – and am keen to settle in Manchester, where there is so much going on for the tech community. The thing that most attracted me about working here was the sense that I was in at the start of something. In my interview, it came across that you could really be involved by inputting ideas and helping to establish new ways of working and processes. Obviously, it’s a well-known brand so it’s not like a startup, but in the Manchester Hub they want your energy and ideas – as well as your ability to code!

At the moment I’m working on the Cheap Energy Club for MoneySavingExpert and using Java, Jenkins and Mongo DB – so all cool technologies. In my free time I do a lot of the meetups in Manchester and am helping with the free code camps.

I joined Moneysupermarket on a Graduate scheme straight from University. What attracted me was that they used technologies that I had used at Uni, and at the interview I could tell that it was a really supportive place. Everyone I met was encouraging and friendly. And the salary package was good too! Since I started I’ve tried different roles as part of a rotation – but ended up after a year at Associate level in Quality Assurance. The job suits me well – my degree was in environmental science, so I had a good grounding in data and analysis, and I enjoy the puzzle solving nature of the work. We use a lot of recall analysis – ‘is it doing what we expect, are we getting the results we expect’ and I enjoy being trusted with a new software release and seeing it through from start to finish.

I’ve been given lots of opportunities, and I’ve have had a good network of support throughout. Next month I am going on a 3-day course to do my Foundation Level ISTQB – and it’s great to feel like I’m gaining professional qualifications as well as all the on the job experience.
